What is the best way to change the sentence below from passive voice to active voice? A hike is done by Gigi every weekend. By Gigi, a hike is done every weekend. Gigi hikes every weekend. A hike is done every weekend by Gigi. Every weekend, a hike is done by Gigi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gigi hikes every weekend.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following sentences is written in passive voice? A seedy motel is checked into as just part of the authentic road trip experience. Bessy checked into a seedy motel as part of the authentic road trip experience. As part of the authentic road trip experience, they checked into a seedy motel. Kameel, as part of the authentic road trip experience, checked into a seedy motel.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one.

What is the best way to change this sentence from passive voice to active voice? Prometheus was punished severely by Zeus for stealing fire and giving it to mortals. Punished severely was Prometheus by Zeus for stealing fire and giving it to mortals. Zeus punished Prometheus severely for stealing fire and giving it to mortals. For stealing fire and giving it to mortals, Prometheus was punished severely by Zeus. Prometheus was severely punished for stealing fire and giving it to mortals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When a sentence is written passive voice, it's structured in such a way that it seems like the subject isn't really doing the action. Like, in this sentence: A seedy motel is checked into as just part of the authentic road trip experience. It tells you that the subject is doing something in a roundabout type of way, unlike in the sentence below, which directly says that the person is doing something. Bessy checked into a seedy motel as part of the authentic road trip experience.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In this sentence, who is the subject: Prometheus was punished severely by Zeus for stealing fire and giving it to mortals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prometheus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really--this is kind of tricky because there are two people in the sentence, but in this case Prometheus is an object. Zeus would be the subject here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, OpenStudy just gave me some server trouble. Okay, so, since Zeus is the subject, "Punished" is the action, and Prometheus is the object, which of the following sentences shows the subject directly acting against the object? Punished severely was Prometheus by Zeus for stealing fire and giving it to mortals. Zeus punished Prometheus severely for stealing fire and giving it to mortals. For stealing fire and giving it to mortals, Prometheus was punished severely by Zeus. Prometheus was severely punished for stealing fire and giving it to mortals.

So passive voice is the use of any form of the verb "to Be" plus the passed participle of another verb. for ex. The ball was kicked by Tom. "was" is the past tense of the verb "to be" and "Kicked" is the past participle. To make a sentence using the passive voice "active" voice, simply ask yourself "to whom" or "to what" at the end of the sentence. So you would say to yourself, The ball was kicked to whom or to what? the answer is Tom. Next take the answer, Tom, and make that the subject. So your active sentence would read, Tom kicked the ball. Hope this helps and good luck!!
