What is the value of 652.94952 rounded to the ones place?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

which number is in the ones place?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2? i think im not vary good at this

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

2 is correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

look to the digit just to the right of the ones place what number is there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

is that number greater than 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so that means we erase everything after the ones place to go from 652.94952 to 652 then we add 1 to the number to bump it up to 653. We do this because of that 9 is greater than 5 therefore, 652.94952 rounds to 653 when rounding to the ones place

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u i allways get it confused cuz i think that when its lower than 5 it stays the same and every thing after it turns to 0 right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah IF you had something like 652.34, the 3 is less than 5 so you just erase everything after the ones place and leave it as it is so 652.34 rounds to 652

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank u :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
