Solve the systems of equations by graphing

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

do you need to plot points...?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Yes. I have to make 2 lines

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so rewrite the 1st line as y = 3x - 3 for the 2nd line 2y = 6x - 3 divide every term by 2 . What do you get..?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

do you understand the concept of using a table of values..? |dw:1421959230256:dw|

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

No i have never done that

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

I have to drive home now, but if someone can explain to me what it means to use a table of values?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

@campbell_st can you explain this to me please?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

I was at work earlier and my students needed my attention sorry

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so you substitute each x value to get a y value so rewrite the 1st equation as y = 3x - 3 x = 0 y = 3*0 - 3 so y = -3 the point is (0, -3) next x =1 y = 3*1 - 3 so y = 0 the point (1, 0) lastly x = 2 y = 3* 2 - 3 so y = 3 the point (2, 3) plot the 3 points and draw a line through them now repeat the process for the 2nd line 2y = 6x - 3 use x = 0 x = 1 x = 2 to find the points... plot them and draw a line through them and see if the lines intersect. hope it helps

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

That definitely does!! Thank you so much.
