Simplify x to the fourth power minus 3 times x cubed all over x squared minus 9. −1 x minus 3 all over x plus 3 x cubed all over x plus 3 1 over 3 @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

\[\large \frac{x^4 - 3x^3}{x^2 - 9}\] Okay...first, what can we do with that denominator? how can we simplify that?

divide 9 and 3?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Not quite...my first step would be to factor that bottom... Sidebar here...if we have x^2 + 3x + 4 = 0 how do we solve that? we factor right? we think...what 2 numbers multiply to make 4....but add to make 3? etc... here...we have the same thing We have x^2 + 0x - 9 what 2 numbers multiply to make -9....but add to make 0?
