Allen has a photo that is 6 in by 8 in. What will the dimensions of the photo be if he scales it down by a factor of one-half ? 3 in by 4 in 6 in by 8 in 12 in by 16 in 1.5 in by 2 in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DanJS

OpenStudy (danjs):

half of each dimension

OpenStudy (danjs):

6/2 by 8/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 3 * 4 basically

OpenStudy (danjs):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which = 12

OpenStudy (danjs):

yes, but the prob just wants the linear dimension, not the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then A?

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }*6~ inches~~by~~\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }*8~inches\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then it would be... a? i dont know..

OpenStudy (danjs):

If you want to go that extra step, the area will be 1/4th of the original , if you scale the side lengths down by 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then 1/4 of 6 and 1/4 of 8 is the answer?

OpenStudy (danjs):

scaling down by a factor of 1/2 , just divide the side lengths by 2

OpenStudy (danjs):

3 by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait a sec. 3 by 4 is the answer or do i have to do something to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DanJS is it D? I think so...
