I just am not a song/poem writer XD lol..... I am bad with words when i'm put on the spot.... lol and here are the instructions for it:

"Poetry is a form of writing that can be used to express your beliefs, emotions, and observations, and can also be used to evoke a response from others. In writing poetry, an author is going to bring his or her experiences and beliefs to the work.

Write a poem about what America means to you. It can be lyric, free verse, sonnet or whatever form best expresses your feelings.

I am just lost lol I don't... really have feelings towards America... ._. I mean.... Technically the poem doesn't have to be happy, unless I'm missing something in the criteria...
If you write, but not poetry, try writing a paragraph and then breaking it into lines. This effectively makes it free-verse poetry. Then, begin taking out words, making it sound more poem like, making it flow better, etc. Free verse can essentially be made alt lit - think Crank or other books by by Ellen Hopkins.
