@DanJS
OpenStudy (danjs):
What do you know about the angle for a straight line?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Nothing basically
OpenStudy (danjs):
A straight line is 180 degrees

oh and 360 is all around turn thingy
OpenStudy (danjs):
90 is a right angle
OpenStudy (danjs):
The sum of all the angles that make up a straight line is 180 degrees
OpenStudy (danjs):
Vertical angles are equal

Ok, so

so you have
\[180 = 70 + 60 + y\]
OpenStudy (danjs):
those 3 angles add together to form a straight line.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmm so what are we trying to find?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
angle x
OpenStudy (danjs):
you find Y from that, then angle X=angle Y because they are "Vertical angles"

yes right so how do we start?
OpenStudy (danjs):
What i said above... the sum of any number of angles that total a straight line is 180 degrees. So you can say.
180 = 60 + 70 + y
OpenStudy (danjs):
y = 180 - 60 - 70 = 50
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh..
OpenStudy (danjs):
since Y and X are vertical angles,
y = x = 50

so then its that easy!?! WOW
OpenStudy (danjs):
I think what they want you do do is this though...

here

Here what? @DanJS
OpenStudy (danjs):
\[180 = 60 + 70 + x~~~~and~~~~180=60+70+y\]
both of those angle combinations make a straight line of 180
OpenStudy (danjs):
So it sort of proves that the "vertical angles" x and y are equal
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh so thats it?

yeah that is it
OpenStudy (danjs):
The point of the prob, is to realize that a straight line is 180 degrees
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you are AWESOME thanks soooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!! #1 LIFESAVER
