I need help. I WILL GIVE A MEDAL! It's for ethics
There is this thing in my ethics class we have to do. I will give a medal for help.
Okay so we were given a scenario by our teacher. We are realist Christians who are archaeologists who find Dead sea scrolls from 2000 years ago that are written in the language Jesus spoke.
They say that on Jesus' coming, we have to give our children on their 13th b day as a burnt offering. What would we do? I know this is a test given by my ethics teacher and it is very challenging because it is testing our morals.
Well, what would you do in this scenario?
There's a similar scenario in the bible. In the book of Genesis 22:1-18 a man named Abraham was tested by his faith. He was told by God to take his only son (Isaac) to be sacrifice in the mountains. Even though Abraham was conflicted, he obeyed God. This was a test of faith. A test of faith. (Fast forwarding) An angel of the Lord said "Abraham! Abraham! Don't lay a hand on the boy! Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son." Soon after Abraham passed the test, the Lord said "Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed-all because you have obeyed me." What would you do? Hope this helped!
This is from 2,000 years ago (Before the new law was created). When Jesus died on the cross, a new law was made. We do not have to offer children as sacrifices, this was old law, we are under the new law! It's in the Bible, I encourage everybody to read it! I don't care what anybody thinks about my religion, haters hate, but I will do my best to spread God's Word. Mark 16:15 says "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every living creature.". Sorry about the long message, just wanted to help you understand!
Yeah, no I'm a Christian too which is why this was such a hard question because it was pitting my faith against my morals. Honestly I think if I was presented with this in real life, I would need a sign from God to know it was really him telling me to this. BTW, I have heard the Abraham and Issac story before and I used this story when thinking of my answer. If it was really God telling me this, I would do it, I know that sounds bad but honestly I don't think God would have us go through with it either. I did some research and God has never told someone to sin in the Bible and actually had them go through with it.
