Why was the banking industry under investigation by the Nye Committee in 1934? Questions emerged as to whether banks, as well as munitions factories, played a role in the United States joining World War I. Senators wanted to uncover the role the banks played in the loss of individual savings accounts during the Depression. The banking industry was accused of loaning money to Japan after it invaded Manchuria.
