If our monthly income is $1,871 and your house payment is $1,429, what fraction of your monthly income must go to pay your house payment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55 please help

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The fraction is the part over the whole. The part is the monthly amount paid for the house. The whole is the monthly income. Write a fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1429/1871 is that correct

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

yup, you're right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i do anything else?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

not really. unless you want the answer as a percent. but if it asks for a fraction you should be good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm nope i dont do anything else:) thanks!

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

cool

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

wow how are the people in the problem going to pay for groceries if the rent is high?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You are correct. The only thing you could try to do is to reduce the fraction, but I'm not sure it can be reduced.
