1)In which of the following situations would you use the verb tocar instead of jugar? A) to play football B) to play the flute C) to play cards D) to play video games

OpenStudy (alfonso-o):

Hello! When we talk about musical instruments in Spanish, we use *tocar* instead of *jugar*. Hope this helps! Blessings

OpenStudy (one098):

As @Alfonso-O stated, we do use "tocar" instead of "jugar" because if you were to say, I play the flute(using the meaning of play(jugar)) it would be, Yo juego la flauta. But then that's as if you were saying, I play football, or I play a card game. jugar, in itself, is to play a game, etc. and tocar, is also to play, but it means to play an instrument, etc. However, that's where Spanish gets confusing, because if you were to say, tocar, that means to touch. So, when you say, Yo toco la flauta, it would translate to, I touch the flute. Just watch out with words like, jugar and tocar!
