a. The solution is x= -23 and y= 12 This is because: 2x+y= -34 can be turned into y= -2x -34 now we can sub y into the first equation, this gives 3x-10x-170= -9 which is 7x= 161 x= -23 Now we can sub x into the second equation and that gives us y= 12
