Why is it important to be able to amend the Constitution?

OpenStudy (kohai):

Because if it wasn't, it would quickly become outdated and inapplicable. Think about it like this: Slavery was right in the 1600s but in the late 1900s we decided it was wrong. If it was part of the Constitution, it couldn't be changed and people who still think it's right would still be denying people their rights.
