A ball rolls off a table with a horizontal velocity of 7 m/s. (a) If it takes 0.3 seconds for it to reach the floor, what is the vertical component of the ball's velocity just before it hits the floor? (Use g = 10 m/s2.) m/s (b) What is the horizontal component of the ball's velocity just before it hits the floor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(a) I would suggest using: v = a * t , where the acceleration 'a' is g = 10 m/s^2 in this case. (b) Same idea. Vertical and horizontal velocities are independent. Since there is no force acting on the object after it leaves the table, the horizontal velocity should not change.
