The amount of a person’s paycheck p varies directly with the number of hours worked t. For 10 hours of work, the paycheck is $57.50. Write an equation for the relationship between hours or work and pay. A) p = 57.50t B) p = t + 57.50 C) p = t + 5.75 D) p = 5.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the paycheck = 57.50 when they work 10 hours. 10 hours = t. So we know that 10 times the amount they work per hour = 57.50. What do you think the answer would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer would be A) p = 57.50t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. That would mean that they get 57.50 for each hour they work. t basically means per hour. For example if you make 10 dollars an hour and work 40 hours in a week your paycheck at the end of the week would be 10*40 = 400. In this question you know the 57.50 (equivalent to the 400 in my example) and that they worked 10 hours (equivalent to 40 hours in my example).

So the answer would be C

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

For 10 hours of work, the paycheck is $57.50 unit rate=$57.50/10=$5.75 an hour technically it should be p = 5.75t that's not an answer choice though... did you miss a t on answer D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, you are right. Sorry about that. So the answer would be D) p = 5.75t

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Yes.

Thank you :]
