simplify x-y/x+y + x+y/x-y

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

May I rewrite the question?\[\frac{x-y}{x+y}+\frac{x+y}{x-y}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats how its written

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

How would you do?\[\frac{a}{b}+\frac{b}{a}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would stay the same. a/b + b/a

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

Try multiplying each by \(ab\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh i get it. for the xy question my answer would come out to 2(x^2+y^2)/(x+y)(x-y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i simplify my answer more? if so, would does it come out to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r u still here

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

Sorry, doing math the old fashioned way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i gotchu

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

Yeah, you're good. You could do \(x^2-y^2\) if you factor the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aight cool. thanks fam
