What stage of cellular respiration produces the most ATP? A Electron transport chain B Glycolysis C Krebs cycle D Fermentation
A The Electron Transport process is the third process in cell respiration, it requires oxygen directly. The electron transport "chain" is a series of electron carriers in the membrane of the mitochondria. Through a series of reactions, the "high energy" electrons are passed to oxygen. In the process, a gradient is formed, and ultimately ATP (Adinosine triphosphate), an energy molecule is formed. Therefore this stage produces the most ATP.
o ok i got. can you help with one more?
I can try :)
Alcoholic fermentation A forms fewer ATP molecules than cellular respiration B uses oxygen and ATP molecules as reactants C occurs in the muscle cells of animals and humans D gives off carbon dioxide and NADH as products
D. http://www.phschool.com/science/biology_place/biocoach/cellresp/review5b.html
D. for sure!
thank you both :)
its not D :(
Any time :)
That's weird, can you retry the question?
on the test it just said "Alcoholic fermentation A forms fewer ATP molecules than cellular respiration B uses oxygen and ATP molecules as reactants C occurs in the muscle cells of animals and humans D gives off carbon dioxide and NADH as products"
Ok well I think it's B, since it's not D.
ALCOHOLIC fermentation
from name itself you can get that one of end products is alcohol -thats number 1 number 2- fermentation can never occur IN PRESENCE OF OXYGEN coz when oxygen is present then we can just undergo normal respiration and produce a lot of ATPs now the the difference between normal respiration and fermentation is that in normal respiration (aerobic meaning) majority of ATP are produced through Electron transport chain and electron transport chain requires Oxygen as its final electron acceptor but when there is no oxygen then there is no Electron transport chain step - and instead it leads to different ending - which is fermentation thus number of ATP produced by fermentation is less compared to when there is normal aerobic respiration where there IS electron transport chain step
its not D because CO2 and NADH is NOT final product now its not C because there are a lot of microorganisms that do alcoholic fermentation while they have no muscle cells like animals and humans (yeast for example)
