How did the Spanish-American War help create support for building the Panama Canal? A canal would have helped US ships get to the war more quickly. A canal would have stopped enemy ships from getting to the war area. A canal would have allowed the US to build ships more quickly. A canal would have prevented Spain from fighting in the war.
