Why did the United States become involved in the Philippines’ affairs? to help establish a democracy in preparation for independence to fight the Spanish-American War to create a base there during World War II to fight a dictatorship there

Navy led by Admiral Dewey scuttled the Spanish armada in the famous Battle of Manila Bay, thus this defeat of Spain paved the way for the Spanish-American war in the Philippines. During that time, the Philippines was a colony of Spain, and subsequently the U. S. eventually booting out Spain as a colonizer here. The Philippines was granted by the U. S. its independence on 04 July 1946. When the date of this "so-called Independence Day" was moved to 12 June sometime in 1963 by Philippine legislative action upon the efforts of then Pres. Diosdado Macapagal, 04 July is now called Philippine American Friendship Day by virtue of this special relations." (Yahoo Answers)

Here's a tip: the U.S. almost never gets involved in a country purely to spread democracry, there's always some interests, whether they are military or economic or religious, to advance
