The system of equations is inconsistent. What are the missing values? y = 2/3 x + 3 y = _/_ x +5

Read over here and you will know: http://www.mathwords.com/i/inconsistent_system_of_equations.htm Come back and post what you think the answer is and we will verify or deny. Tip: Inconsistent systems of equations has no common solution. @heafa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix 3/2?

Directrix (directrix):

No. The two slopes will be identical. So, not 3/2 but what?

Directrix (directrix):

@heafa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@directrix 2/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm having a hard time understanding how this is working :/

Directrix (directrix):

The two lines have the same slope but different y intercepts. Having the same slopes makes the lines parallel so that they will not intersect. They will not meet and will have no solution and will be inconsistent.

Directrix (directrix):

What number is the same as 2/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/6?

Directrix (directrix):

No.

Directrix (directrix):

4/6 is okay but 2/3 is better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 2/3?

Directrix (directrix):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wut

Directrix (directrix):

You are welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said you it can't be the same

Directrix (directrix):

I said that they did have the same slope. >>>The two lines have the same slope but different y intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh well thanks :D

Directrix (directrix):

so its 2/3? YES
