Variable y varies directly with variable x, and y = 5 when x = 8. What is the value of x when y = 15? I know that the formula is x = ky so, 8 = k(5) but where do I put the 15??

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

isn't it y=kx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me check. one sec.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea, my bad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Looks like my teacher gave me the wrong formula lol

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

lolol ;P

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

then it should be like y=kx 5=8k what's k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think your suppose to solve for k. So divide 8 on both sides? But what do I do with the 15?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

what did u get for k first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I divided 8 sides. So k = 5/8, which got me 0.645.

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

5/8 i got 0.625 0.0 xD

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

now we have y=kx 15=0.625x solve for x :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 24

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yes :) is that one of ur option?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

thx for the medal :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. Thank you so much!
