What is the central belief about government expressed in the beginning of the Declaration of Independence? Government receives its power from its own military strength and does not deserve to rule if its armies can be beaten. Government receives its power from the people and should be changed if it does not ensure their safety and happiness. Government should consist of three separate but equal branches that watch each other to ensure no abuse of power. Government receives its power from God, not from kings, and therefore the rule of England should not be recognized.
