OpenStudy (mstv1112):

Elise and Miguel both collect baseball cards, miguel has two more than two times as many as Elise, together they have 971 cards. -- Write an equation to represent this equation. -- How many cards does each person have?

Mehek (mehek14):

2+2e+e=971 Miguel's is 2 more(2+) than two times Elises(2e), and with Elise's(e), 971

Mehek (mehek14):

Simplify to 3e=969, then find e=323. e is Elise's, remember? So she has 323 cards. To find Miguel's, you can subtract 323 from 971, or solve for his portion of the equation. Either way, you get 648

Mehek (mehek14):

Is that helpful?

OpenStudy (mstv1112):

Yeah
