D. Many reasons were apart of their exploration. One was to find new trade routes to the indies for spices. Others included finding gold and new lands for colonization to further grow their empires. But all of this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the newly technologically advanced (for that time) ships, and the development of new technology like the compass.
