The phone company A Fee and Fee has a monthly cellular plan where a customer pays a flat monthly fee and then a certain amount of money per minute used on the phone. If a customer uses 190 minutes, the monthly cost will be $94.5. If the customer uses 530 minutes, the monthly cost will be $213.5. A) Find an equation in the form y = m x + b, where x is the number of monthly minutes used and y is the total monthly of the A Fee and Fee plan. Answer: y=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=mx+b 94.5=m190+b 213.5=m530+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve the 2 equations 2 unknown and 2 equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it doesn't say solve it says find an equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need the equation in order to solve the second part which is B) Use your equation to find the total monthly cost if 683 minutes are used.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the equation you need to solve these equation to find m and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve first equation for b then put in equation 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

94.5=m190+b => b = 94.5-m190

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 213.5=m530+b 231.5=m530+(94.5-m190) solve for m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give me the equation and i'll do part b this is just an example so i can see how to do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

231.5=m530+94.5-m190 231.5-94,5=m530-m190 137=m340 =>m=137/340

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y=137/340x+?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*213.5-94.5=m530=m190 119=m340

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whattt im so confusedd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the equation??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know we have 2 equations 94.5=m190+b 213.5=m530+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need one equation y=mx+b form

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

We know, but you have the use the information given to you to find the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rate is missing and the fee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am using them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone please show me the steps with the equation so i can understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b is the fee m is the rate these 2 are not given

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

94.5=m190+b 213.5=m530+b This is setup. You solve for one variable then plug in that one to find the other. Once you have m and b you can plug m and b into y =mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b=-190m+94.5

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

94.5=m190+b 213.5=m530+b b = 94.5 - m190 then plug this into the second equation 213.5 = m530 + 94.5 -m190 213.5 = m340 + 94.5 (213.5 - 94.5)/340 = m 0.35 which is 7/20. So m =7/20 Now plug in m into either equation find b then once you have m and b you can substitute those values into y =mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=7/20x+28

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

Yup. That is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B) Use your equation to find the total monthly cost if 683 minutes are used.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, y=7/20(683)+28

267.05
