OpenStudy (bohotness):

These two men have each given a historical account of Southern slavery. In what main way do the texts differ? The first account is a negative portrayal of slavery, and the second account defends it. The first account is told from the perspective of a slave who worked in the house and the second told from a slave who worked in the field. The first account is a positive portrayal of the institution, and the second reveals its horror. One text is written by a slave owner, and the other is written by a Northern abolitionist.
