I KNOW THE ANSWER I JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW TO GET TO IT. HELP???! One in every 9 people in a town vote for party A. All others vote for party B. How many people vote for party B in a town of 810?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

1 in 9 means 1 vote for party A and 8 votes for party B so take the voting population, divide it by 9, this will be the number who voted for party A multiply the answer by 8 to give the number of people who votes for party B. hope it helps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so you don't subtract?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well you can.... or you can use the value for 1 and then multiply it by 8. both methods should give the same answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone said ‎810 divided by 9 = 90, 810 - 90 = 720

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

and if you divide by 9 Vote for A = 90 Vote for B = 90 x 8 = 720

I just need to know the equation or w.e and why we subrtract or multipy
