I think that you just have to change the verb in the second sentence to

but then again I'm not sure since I'm not in a high level in french at all

It is a French question, you have to provide the logical answer to the question.
Eg in English:
- Hey, are you ok?
- Yes, I'm ok!

Vincent is correct. So in English it is asking, "You and your friend, you are smart?" So you need to answer the question in French using the correct form of Etre in your response. For Ex. you could say in French - Yes, my friend and I are very smart. Good Luck!
