Averages and Rounding: When deciding the score value of a diamond, the respective weights of its qualities are: Brilliance 5, Size 4, Color 2, Clarity 2, Cut 1. What is a diamond's quality score if its qualities were as follows? Brilliance 94, Size 82, Color 78, Clarity 91, Cut 96. This is a question I got on my online practice ACT test and I told me the correct answer is 88, but I don't know why. I really don't even know where to begin to figure this question out, so please help/walk me through it. Thanks!

Okay so to get the average or the quality score you take the qualities which are 94, 82, 78, 91, and 96 and you will add them. That will give you which equals 441. Then you will divide 441 by 5, for each quality, and you come up with the answer 88.2, which is rounded to 88. Hope I helped :)

Oh, I didn't know that quality score meant average! Okay well one more thing though, the answer options were 88.2, 31.5, 88.5, 89, 88. So how come the answer was 88 rather than 88.2?

That, I'm not too sure about haha, I just figured that it would have to be rounded since you said "Average and Rounding" :p

Oh, yeah. Okay I'm guessing that maybe because it said quality score and quality scores can't be a decimal? Well either way you helped a lot. Thanks!

I guess so, but no problem! Glad I could help :)
