In the 1920s, people in America had started using credit to buy things like radios and cars. The economy was doing pretty well, and people thought they could just pay for these things over time. When the Great Depression hit, people lost their money and many lost their jobs. Many of the radios and cars bought on credit had to be returned. That meant that factories suddenly had too many products that could not be sold.
One of the effects of this situation was that thousands of factory workers lost their jobs. more factories opened to make radios and cars. factory workers were hired to deal with all the returns. people started buying television sets instead of radios.
