What is the value of z in the equation 3z + 5 = 4z − 8? A. -13 B. -1 C. 1 D. 13 HEELLLLPPP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve for z, just like previous question, move all the terms with z on the left and just the numbers on the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you're moving things around, you want to use the opposite operation of what already exists, so lets first move the 4z, it's actually +4z, so what can we do to eliminate it on the right and move it to the left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the z ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The whole thing, 4z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 1 ?

@iambatman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D. 13 Move 3z to the right hand side and combine the z terms. Move -8 to the left hand side and combine terms. 13 = z
