OpenStudy Status of the System Online Location: Do you think this is a good idea?

Directrix (directrix):

It is my feeling that those who own or are responsible for the site's maintenance should establish an online location which gives the status of the site. "Outage Report" may be a preferable title to "System Status." When outages or other events which result in the site going offline occur, an update could be provided for OS users. The update should not be written in tech vernacular but in words everyone can follow. As a courtesy to users, an estimated time of the site's return to working online status should be stated.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Oh, yes! This is a great idea! Honestly, I really love it. Sometimes when OS is down and I'm logged in, I wait for an hour or two for it to load everything properly. So instead of waiting, I could've done something useful and not just waist time on here not knowing when will it be back up. I'm totally up for this!

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Love it! For the same reason Yana stated

lol

mathslover (mathslover):

Don't we have such sites which check whether a particular site is up or down - http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/openstudy.com http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/openstudy.com.html Not sure though, whether is this what you're seeking for ^

Directrix (directrix):

@mathslover Yes, one of those sites reported last week that OpenStudy was up when it was not. That is, unless the site is considered to be up when the ads are running but nothing else on the site is functional.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@Directrix That would be a good idea. The estimated time would really help instead of the users staring at the screen and waiting for it to come back up. But the system status would mostly say loading or lost connection.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty good idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with @YanaSidlinskiy

Directrix (directrix):

@mathslover I checked the "Is it me or is it you" site during the recent (5 minutes ago) crash and also the mini-crash which preceded that. Attached are the reports that show that the "me or you" site reported that OS answered the ping and was reported as being functional. Conclusion: I had the problem. The talking Owl image was up stating "Owl be right back." That was read interpreted by the "me or you" site as OS being functional. Ergo, I maintain that OS needs its own "State of the Site" reporting page.

mathslover (mathslover):

Agreed, Directrix! :-)

OpenStudy (igreen):

Amazing idea!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is
