Triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DEF. In triangle ABC, side AB measures 9, side BC measures 3x+1, and side CA measures 7. In triangle DEF, side DE measures 9, side EF measures 2x+2, and side FD measures 7. What equation would help you to solve for the side length of BC and EF? Explain your reasoning using complete sentences.

We can write: 3x + 1 = 2x + 2 And we solve for 'x'. Subtract 1 to both sides: 3x = 2x + 1 Subtract 2x to both sides, what's 3x - 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dollbeautyx Can you subtract that?

OpenStudy (dollbeautyx):

would it be 1x-x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it would be 'x' So we get: x = 1 So the length of the sides are 1.

OpenStudy (dollbeautyx):

Do you know the equation I would use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 is your answer :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sides BC and EF both measure 1.
