When you get fever as a response to an infection, how does it help you fight the infection? A high body temperature creates an unfavorable environment for the reproduction of the infection–causing bacteria. A high body temperature allows bacteria to multiply, which triggers an immune response. A high body temperature raises the pH level of blood, which kills the bacteria.
