What characteristics made Levittowns so popular? World War II veterans were able to live there for free, as provided in the GI Bill. The houses were close together, encouraging a tight sense of community. The houses were mass produced, so they were inexpensive and people could own them. Trains connected these suburbs to the cities where most people worked.
