WILL FAN AND MEDAL How are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells alike? A. both cell types have chloroplasts. B. both contain genetic material. C. both have a membrane-bound nucleus. D. both cell types contain an endomembrane system.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so why do you think that

OpenStudy (somy):

can you prove that all prokaryotes have chloroplast? or that all eukaryotes have chloroplast?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe the answer C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really not sure because I havn't done this for 3 months

OpenStudy (somy):

A. both cell types have chloroplasts. B. both contain genetic material. C. both have a membrane-bound nucleus. D. both cell types contain an endomembrane system. okay lets do it this way which one is wrong answer for this question and you are 100% sure about it being wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (somy):

good job thats indeed right eukaryotic cell DOES have it while prokaryotic DOESNT

OpenStudy (somy):

okay lets narrow it down more

OpenStudy (somy):

do both of them have nucleus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (somy):

which one does which one does not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eukaryotic does and prokaryotic doesn't

OpenStudy (somy):

soo can't you eliminate C. both have a membrane-bound nucleus. this too?

OpenStudy (somy):

membrane bound means - has membrane and indeed nucleus has membrane it has a double membrane - inner and outer envelope

OpenStudy (somy):

the question is asking for similarity so we said one has nucleus while the other doesnt which means its difference rather than similarity so we can eliminate option C along with D right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be B right?

OpenStudy (somy):

bingo! A. both cell types have chloroplasts. this is partially true BUT the problem is that it doesn't apply to ALL types of prokaryotes or eukaryotes meaning there are prokaryotes that do have chloroplast but there are also that do not have it same goes for eukaryotes - there are the one that have it such as plants while there are the ones that do not have it such as animal cells B. both contain genetic material. now this is right, why? well thats because both have DNA its just in prokaryotes its 'naked DNA' in the cytoplasm while in eukaryotes its inside the nucleus thats about it hope it makes it clear :)

OpenStudy (somy):

yep sure as long as you wish to learn :) but open a new question for it, okay? coz it will be pretty messed up )
