I WILL MEDAL!! Which could be the primary source of energy in a food web? A. fungus B. raccoon C. praying mantis D. clover IT IS A?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hello Hello !!

OpenStudy (somy):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what eats, and provides as food for other animals in this case?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Why do you think it should be A. What should be the primary source, a photosynthetic plant or a heterotrophic fungus?

OpenStudy (somy):

what is the primary source of energy for food web you know of? in general

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plant and fugus

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Why fungus? Is it photosynthetic? Does it produce food?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just guessed that most resenable one to me. I also think it can be D.

OpenStudy (somy):

its true that its plant but what is it in plant that make it 'a primary source of energy'?

OpenStudy (somy):

there is one very important reason try to remember it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THe praying mantis eat the clover

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what eats the mantis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the raccon

OpenStudy (somy):

erm its not about that...

OpenStudy (somy):

read questions asked by @Abhisar thats what decides being 'primary source of energy'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ik

OpenStudy (somy):

okay look i'll try to explain first of all the VERY primary source of energy is actually SUN now what can use this energy? can we use it? nope - our cells are not specialized to absorb sunlight and use it to make food for us there is a structure specialized to carry out this is vital to ALL living (well almost all <.<) what is it? Chloroplast Chloroplast is the site of what kind of reaction? you might have guessed it yep, Photosynthesis!!! Photosynthesis is the process by which a plant makes food using Sunlight + water + carbon dioxide and ends up making glucose molecules which the are converted to sucrose which then is converted to Starch as you know these are 'energy' for majority of living things specially for living things which obtain their energy ONLY by eating plants so these animals eat the plant - get the energy now the other animals that cant eat plant (meaning they cant digest it) - cant get energy directly from plant so they get it indirectly from animal thats eats plant and then the other animal will eat this one and so on and so forth the chain keeps going until energy to be be passed on from one organism to another finishes off so bottom line here is the abolity to carry out photosynthesis & making its own food by this process is what decides whether it is a primary source of energy or is not
