OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

please help I'm trying to explain this to my brother (how to solve it) but Idk how,

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

@jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

hello? I need help now

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the shpe contains 1 trinagle 1 rectangle the area formulae are Area of a triangle \[A = \frac{1}{2} \times base \times height\] Area of a rectangle \[Area = length \times width\] the area of the combined shape = Area of Trinagle + area of the rectangle dimensions length = base = 11 1/5 width = 8 4/5 triangle height = 6 2/5 substitute the values for the correct answer.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

could you help with a few more?? you're such a great help!

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I need to explain the questions to my brother.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

campbell covered the first but I have a few more

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I will fan you all and start new posts to be able to medal you all if you explain it to me so I can read it to my brother.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

H is the correct answer.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I need it explained...

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

He needs to understand it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically the formula for a triangle is 1/2 base times height. The formula for a rectangle/square is length times length. To find the area you ADD the area of the triangle and rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For number 3 you remember that an area of a triangle is 1/2(base*height) right?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

97.5 = 1/2(base*height) 97.5 = 1/2(13)(base) (2)97.5 = 1/2(13)(base)(2) 195 = 13 (base) 195/13 = 13/13 (base) base = ?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

why do you multilply a 2 next to the base on the 3rd line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You multiply two to get rid of 1/2 because 1/2 times 2 equals 1

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

oh ok

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

can you help me with the other picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes but you do know the answer to number 3 right?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I'll figure it out and check with you but could you start on the next one? I'm kinda in a hurry :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, well to get number 4 you just need to use the area of a parallelogram formula. So base times height. What does 24 * 9.75 = ?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

234

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what the student correct?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

idk gimme a sec he's still going

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

how do you explain to a kid how to get rid of a fraction in an equation? (like when you multiplied 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You get rid of a fraction when you know the end answer. Example = 5 = x(1/2) You know the end answer is 5 but you want to know what x is. So you have to get rid of 1/2 . To do that it needs to equal one. So (1/2) time 2 = 1. But you have to make sure that you times it on both sides. 5*2 = x(1/2)*2 10 = x.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

got it. thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No prob. Is that all you need or do you need more help? :)

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I would love some more!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok just tell me :)

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

okay give me a second to type it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :3

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

oh wait on number 4

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I still don't get it. Can you explain it step by step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok :) Well what is the base of the figure in the question?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I forgot about the little triangle and solved the area for the rectangle thingy and now I have 234 but I'm confused as to what the answer would be

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

actually he is gonna ask my dad nvm can you help me with another?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well with that we can x out H and F. But it's asking HOW we got the answer. Real quickly tell me the formula for the area of a parallelogram.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

L TIMES W

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure I can help ya.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

i'm sorry but I'm still so confused and we don't have much time. if you want we can save that question for the end but I need to move one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you want the answer?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

|dw:1423015686234:dw| A square with a side length of 30 cm is divided into 4 triangles. Which expression CANNOT be used to find the area of one of the four small triangles? a. 30^2 divided by 4 b. 1/2(30*15) c. (30*30)divided by 2 d. 450/2

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

No because he needs to understand it AND show work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok well For this one what is the area of the square?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

900

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good, what does 900/4 = ?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

225

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good so now we know the area of the triangles. Does (30 times 30) divided by 2 equal 225? (30 *30)/2 = ?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

no

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

450

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that means that you can NOT solve the answer using (30*30)divided by 2. So the correct answer is C.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

no its d

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

because 450/2 has absolutely nothing to do with the question at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why is it d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good answer

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

am I right or is it wrong?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

or is 450 somehow in this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I would go with c because it is the ONLY answer that does NOT equal 225.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

hmm.. ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyway I have to go. <:3

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

but wait since c=450 it does have something involved!
