Which value is a solution for the equation tan(x/2)=1? Please explain. Thank you!

You can plug each answer choice into the original equation and evaluate/simplify to see if you get a true equation.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

For example, let's say we have the equation 2x+3 = 9 I claim that the solution is x = 2. Let's check that 2x+3 = 9 2(2)+3 = 9 ... replace x with 2 4+3 = 9 7 = 9 ... this is false, so x = 2 is NOT the solution

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

I have been thinking d. pi/4 but do I plug that into the x or replace x/2 all together?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if they say x = pi/4, then you replace x (NOT x/2) with pi/4 if something is equal to another, then you can replace because the two are equivalent (one can take the other's place)
