OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

A sandbag was thrown downward from a building. The function f(t) = -16t2 - 32t + 128 shows the height f(t), in feet, of the sandbag after t seconds. Part A: Factor the function f(t) and use the factors to interpret the meaning of the x-intercept of the function. (4 points) Part B: Complete the square of the expression for f(x) to determine the vertex of the graph of f(x). Would this be a maximum or minimum on the graph? (4 points) Part C: Use your answer in part B to determine the axis of symmetry for f(x)? (2 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand any of this?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what parts dont you understand?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well what would you do to solve for the equation, is there a common denominator?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

um.. I think it is t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you simplify the equation at all?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all that f(t) means is basically y so its y=-16t^-32-128

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what do you get when you simplify it?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

2x16= 32

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

Then the two 32's make a perfecct square

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

I dont think the square matters does it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no why dont you start by dividing everything by -16

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

idk cuz it didnt come to mind im dum and tired

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol it happens

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

Yes it does. So i divide -16/ -32

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

i got 2

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

correct or nah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no take -16t^2/-16 you will get just (1)t^2 same with -32t/-16 you get +2t and then 128/-16 gives you -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you see how i did that?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

OH ok yea i got that now

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

@NickR Do you mind helping me with b andd c i thought ik it but its a little more different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you get for your answer?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

The 8 is postive not negitive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -8 because a negative times a positive is a negitive

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

Oh i miss read the last part then

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

you cant simplify 8- can you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once you get t^2+2t-8 you need to foil it, can you do that?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

I might

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

nope

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

hey dude thanks for your help im just going to quit cuz im tired and its amost 1am here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sounds good and not a problem

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):

@sleepyjess @ganeshie8 @Conqueror Can you guys teach me how to foilt^2 + 2t-8

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
