What is the difference between a dilation of a parabola/cubic/quartic etc parallel to the y-axis and dilation parallel to the x-axis? I understand that parallel to y is vertical and the other one is horizontal but arent they both just stretching it

you can dilate just the x values, or you can dilate just the y values (by multiplying by a constant)
