When composing, it is important to recognize whether a clause is restrictive or non-restrictive to determine how to punctuate it. Identify which one of the following tips is NOT accurate.

If removing the description changes the basic meaning, then do not use commas. Non-restrictive clauses are also called non-essential clauses. Use commas to set the phrase apart anytime the clause is not essential. If you can remove the clause without changing the meaning, then use commas. If the phrase contains more than five words, set it apart with commas.
