Its either A or C.  The reason i say that is because the widening of a lake could cause isolation.  Just like people in Finland who get diseases because of lack of genetic diversity within it.  The reason behind Finlands problem is water.  Being surrounded by it, trapped if you will.  Volcano would make sense but i think that would be more of a genetic elimination.  Killing them off.  But then again im not 100% sure.

water can be possible if it freezes then they die but water has to be in a form to be in in order for you drown meanwhile lava can burn you and cover a whole city and the magma cools and your body is stuck in time so therefor you are dead.
