Mathematics 13 Online
OpenStudy (ilovecake):

Mia has taken 3 more tennis lessons than Rita has taken. Mia has taken 8 tennis lessons. How many total tennis lessons have Mia and Rita taken?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, if Mia took 8, and she had 3 more than Rita, you can subtract 8 - 3, which equals 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if Mia has taken 3 more lessons than Rita and Mia has taken 8 that means that Rita has taken 5 together that is 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So Mia had 8 and Rita had 5. To get the total, add 8 + 5. @Ilovecake

OpenStudy (ilovecake):

13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, so 13 is your answer.

OpenStudy (curiousquestions):

Darn, I was hoping to answer this one. :( Well, nothing keeps me from still doing it! :) Step 1: If Mia had 3 more lessons than Rita and Mia had 8 lessons, you would need to subtract Mia's number of lessons minus 3 because she had 3 more lessons than Rita.

OpenStudy (curiousquestions):

Step 2: Once you get the answer to that, take that answer and add Mia's number of lessons to get what you need to get the final answer: both of their lessons combined.
