Why do people choose to start smoking?? I have to have 3 reasons why people choose to start smoking and weigh each reason against the facts. In other words, prove that the reasons not to smoke far outweigh the reasons to smoke. I have these reasons: they think it's cool, peer pressure, and curiosity. I need help with the opposing argument/facts.! Help please!! thansk

Smoking.... What? I assume you mean Tobacco?

OpenStudy (crissy15):

stressed causes you to do dumb things, then you can't stop, just wanted too, yea reasons not to smoke outweigh to smoke

OpenStudy (somy):

they think it's cool - their surroundings peer pressure - daily life/ stresses -here is biological role curiosity - again surroundings/ society each of them is because of society

OpenStudy (somy):

for peer pressure society too or more like mainly

OpenStudy (somy):

if you want to weigh it with facts think of points that direct to biological reasons instead of think its cool and curiosity - you can put stress/daily life stress peer pressure is good - here you will talk about society's influence think of third one again - you can include addiction here

OpenStudy (somy):

now try thinking of how society can influence our behavior - sociological and psychological reasons then think of how smoking effects stress - biological reasons/ facts & a bit of psychological reasons and lastly think of what in smoke/cigarette makes people addicted (they might be wanting to quit it but cant due to addiction) - biological reasons/ facts

I believe that smoking starts because of two things, 1. When people are Stressed they look to drugs and smoking to help them. Though in the long run it end causing cancer things like that. 2. Peer pressure can take it's toll when all your friends are saying, here try it it's great! But in the long saying yes and taking the tobacco or drug sets you up a addiction in the long run
