How do systems of non-linear equations represent "Real life" situations?

OpenStudy (kainui):

This is a pretty broad question, since real life is everywhere. One example could be how does an archer have to shoot an arrow to hit a floating ball? The arrow follows a parabola and the moving target moves on a sine wave, so that could be some random silly example.

for instance, one i see over and over (and have actually used) is when i need to compare the values of two things. Car mileage when I'm comparing two cars, cell phone plans, etc.

kainui's example is cooler!
