This is actually a fairly difficult question in my mind, I was leaning more towards 3 but I could understand why 4 would be the choice. Perhaps @Conqueror can help more than I can.

I don't believe it's 4 because if he's watching the sunrise bounce off objects, it would make sense that he would watch it across the tower and dial.
