Okay cool! Why is Freedom of Speech necessary in a Democratic Society?

Mainly because freedom of speech is a major hallmark in a democratic society. It wouldn't be a truly democratic society if its citizens were not allowed to speak their minds. Yahoo.com

The definition of a self-controlled society means that it itself shall make own decisions. And the society can do this with the open exchange of opinions.

Well i have to write a 4-5 paragraph essay based off of that question i posted and 2.Are there any conditions under which this freedom could be denied?
If so, when and why might the freedom be denied? 3. How does this freedom impact your life?

If you go in a crowded theater and scream fire and some one gets hurt or killed you will be brought up on charges. Other examples would be lying about someone which could be construed as slander. Just because we have freedom of speech does mean we can harass someone with our words.
