Inverse functions help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let f(x) = 2x + 2. Solve f-1(x) when x = 4. (1 point) 1 3 4 10 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=2*4+2 smitch places: 4=2y+2 y=1?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Yes, you're right, y = 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

First write your function, f(x) in terms of y. y =... then switch x and y. Resolve for y. Label that as \(f^{-1}(x)\) Then find \(f^{-1}(4)\)

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[f(x)=2x+2\]\[y=2x+2\]\[x=2y+2\]\[2y=x-2\]\[f^{-1}(x) =\frac{x-2}{2}, ~ ~~ x=4\]\[f^{-1}(4) =\frac{4-2}{2}\]\[f^{-1}(x) =1 ~\checkmark\]
