OpenStudy (eyust707):

Thank you for keeping the OpenStudy website free for everyone to use, we all greatly appreciate that. I know that to offset costs some advertisements are required. However, I find the advertisements with audio/video to be distracting, counter productive and honestly very contradictory to the ideals upon which the website was founded and operates. Is there any possible way to request that the adverts dont have audio and video?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i 110% agree with @eyust707 OS is an awesome site and i get to help people all over the world its awesome!!!! yeah occasionally the site sucks the sack and cant load for shiz and the freaking mods have no sense of humour but yes OS rocks da squid armz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You CAN use AdBlock..it removes all ads..therefore not giving OS any money though..

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

WEll, first is first. You can subscribe to OpenStudy that way you can get less ads. I'm with you. I do strongly dislike. To subscribe to OpenStudy it is $10 a month. I have a K9 Web Protection on my computer and it blocks all the ads automatically.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

People who have subscribed to OpenStudy also have a diamond. Something like this(See attachment below)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And they get to choose another name. For example, @Luigi0210 has chosen the name 'King Noob'

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

And especially when I'm in college...They have all those types of ads and it's ridiculous..I just either pause those audio/video ads or just mute my speakers..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My volume is always muted :P

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Mine isn't. I listen to music all the time....Especially in school. Although to be honest, I can't concentrate working with music.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I never listen to music, I only have my volume on when I watch a video for school or something.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

turn off your volume.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Same iGreen :) Always keep your computer at mute. But the 2 only options are Subscribing to OpenStudy and pay $10 and get no ads. And get to customize your title, etc. Or to get adblock and live happily ever after with no ads for free :)

If most of the people use adblock, it will hurt Openstudy. Most of the non-profit sites has the possibility to shut down because they don't have any source of money to support the site. Well anyway, I also use adblock sometimes when OS loads slowly but I'm disabling it if OS is working fine. Let's just hope Owlbucks will work out perfectly (:

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I thought ad block will only block it from your side. No companies will know that you blocked their ad and they will still give OS money. Now I realize that its different.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

haha :)

OpenStudy (kohai):

If I recall correctly the site gets more money if people click on them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, I read something about that online. Each time a user accidentally clicked on the ads from a website, the advertisers will pay the advertising network and then this advertising network will give share to the host of that website (additional payment). Not 100% sure though.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Starts to click on every ad lol :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah! I also plan to do that lol xD but it's illegal if you intend to click it , idk it's complicated.. just google PPC fraud

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

:O

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Interesting...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

weelll, i guess it won't hurt if we clicked it once in a while hehe >:)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Hehe :P

OpenStudy (preetha):

Folks, OpenStudy makes money from the ads you click on. This supports the engineers who fix things and bring new features. It will also go to support the other staff. We chose to go with ads so we could keep this site free.
